The project
will make an inventory of the indicator and other relevant initiatives
in Bahrain (both government and non-government initiated) and
will make an effort to coordinate its activities with these programmes
to foster cross-fertilization and avoid overlap.
On a global
level the B.U.I.P will work together with the Global Urban Observatory
(GUO).
The Global
Urban Observatory (GUO) is a worldwide monitoring and learning
network designed to help implement the Habitat Agenda and to localize
Agenda 21. The GUO will assist governments, local authorities
and civil society to: (a) amplify their ability to collect, interpret
and use empirical information on urban trends and conditions;
(b) formulate and implement national and local policies and plans
of action, based on a better understanding of how urban areas
work; and (c) enrich the knowledge base for urban management and
participatory decision-making processes.
Working through
regional, national and local urban observatory networks, the GUO
will, among other things, help local authorities and organizations
of civil society create, manage and maintain a base of local information
on urban development practice, identify indicators of good policy
and seek out examples of effective civic learning.
At the leading
edge of new technology, the GUO will use the Internet and other
media to establish a network of resources around the world, creating
an "urban knowledge infrastructure."
